Steve Groth - Organist

Christ Our Savior’s organist, Steve Groth, hails from Delafield, WI where he grew up in the Lutheran faith and began performing musically at his sister’s church when he was twelve.  Steve was blessed to receive lessons in piano, violin, and voice throughout his childhood, culminating in his decision to pursue degrees in Choral and General Music Education, French, and European Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Also at UW-Madison he received his first formal training in organ and began further cultivating his love of church music.  After a brief time teaching in the Sun Prairie Public Schools in Wisconsin, Steve moved to Columbia, Missouri to begin his graduate work at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2014.  In addition to being a graduate teaching assistant and accompanist at the university, Steve served as the rehearsal pianist and organist for two local churches and taught music lessons to children in piano, voice, and strings both in Columbia and Jefferson City, Missouri.  He graduated with his Master’s in Music in both Vocal Performance and Collaborative Piano in May of 2017.

In the fall of 2017, Steve moved to Boulder, CO and began his studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder, pursuing his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy.  He served as the Traditional Music Director at Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont, CO where he was responsible for playing the organ and piano while also directing the children’s choir, adult choir, and the Messiah Ringers hand bell choir until the Spring of 2018.  An avid performer, Steve has sung locally with the Boulder Bach Festival, Boulder Opera, Eklund Opera, CU Now’s Composer Fellowship Initiative, and Loveland Opera Theater.  He also currently serves as the Westminster Choir Director at Mountain View Presbyterian Church where he leads a 25-30 member choir weekly in traditional worship.  Steve is thrilled to join the Christ Our Savior community and looks forward to serving the Lord through his musical offerings in the months and years to come.

When not employed by musical endeavors, Steve and his wife, Sarah, enjoy biking, baking, cheering for the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers, and hiking in the mountains of Colorado.  We look forward to meeting you!
